Groin kick (kin geri)

The groin kick is a fast and effective snap kick used to strike at the groin. The striking surface is the top of the foot or instep (Haisoku). Speed and surprise are both important for a good groin kick. As the groin is a soft target, speed more than power is required for the groin kick to be effective.

How to perform a groin kick (kin geri)

Bring your knee forward by pushing off with your toes, so that the heel lifts off first and the toes provide extra forward momentum. With your knee pointing forward, snap the leg towards your opponents groin. Your foot should be pointed forward with your toes pulled tightly down. The striking surface is the top of the foot or instep.

Return your leg to the ground as quickly to stop your opponent from grabbing your leg.
