Uh, nope it is actually DUCT tape. It was originally developed for sealing up ductwork. Gaffer’s tape is sightly different. Gaffer’s tape is highly sticky cloth tape, usually black. It is used in the theater and in film to cover cables and rigging of lights. Duct tape on the other hand is cloth tape with a plastic coating to make the seal airtight. It is silver to match the color of aluminum ductwork. Duck is simply a brand name of duct tape that plays off of the fact that most people have no idea of the origin of duct tape and instead use “duck” tape as it sounds like a more familiar word. But now you know the truth. And it will set you free. Provided you are not taped down with gaffer’s tape.
