Hi

Yes thats Mr Kobayashi. There are some clips of him at Bell Vue Manchester on youtube too so you can see how good his kicks were. You can find them off the links on club website if thats easier.

Kobayashi is fantastic - real joy to meet if you ever get the chance to and still has great technique.

Also on that link you posted is a b&w picture of Ohtsuka, along from him is Ohta Sensei and then Jiro Ohtsuka along to the right.

regards

Ben P.

Thanks Ben

Have you got a link to the Youtube you mentioned. I have been told he is an excellent kicker. I have also been told he use to visit my club many years ago. I remember the others but to my great shame I struggle to remember all the Japanese instructors we use to get - lost in the mists of time

I know Ben will be too modest to mention the Wado Journal magazines on his web site, but if you haven't got them, do so now before they are gone.

Not exectly clear in the old footage so for those who don't recognise Kobayashi sensei, he's the one - as AJ.Moore says - who is doing the attacking so Mr Maeda's no slouch with his keri waza either.

I have to agree with Ben also, Kobayashi sensei has to be the most charming and affable sensei and - for me - personifies wado.

Hi Oneya

I think Maeda was All Japan wado champion wasn't he? I have a film of him freefighting in Stockton on Tees and then practising mawashi geri. I read somewhere that Vic Charles noted Maeda as a big influence for him.

Hi Ben,

Yes Maeda Tadayuki was All Japan Champion 1968 I think. When he first came to the UK he was our resident sensei in Bristol until he developed pneumonia and went back to Japan to recuperate. Amazing technique.

Does anyone know what has become of Maeda Tadayuki. When I was last in Japan I enquired after him and was told that he might be dead.
