Hello,

Mr.Nanbu created Sankukai with evasion, circular movements and the Sankukai badge is representing the sun moon and earth, i am not completely sure on this but i have heard. This is the style that i do, Sankukai has had something to do with Wado-Ryu but nothing special.

Hi DKLF

You seem to have two threads going on more or less the same thing. The only similarity I can see between the two styles is the concept of Tai Sabaki, but that is more in keeping with Nanbu's Aikido background. It is a very different dynamic going on in Wado.

As I mentioned before on another thread I was lucky enough to attend a training course with Nanbu over 30 years ago plus numerous lessons with Alan Hunt. I found it very different to Wado in everything that I learned for that short time. Nanbu was young and dynamic in those days and I enjoyed my brief sortie into Sankukai. But home is where the heart is and my heart is in Wado.

Enjoy your training.

Hello,

Yes you are right, i do have two threads, but the other one was getting old and other members are joining. I did also loose track of the other thread, but i also wanted to make a new topic based on this thread again, not trying to be a pain or anything.

Well i do understand that Wado is your style, my instructor for Karate when he was younger use to do this style but for different reasons, the style Sankukai was made.. with possibly a few similarities that are linked with Wado, but i am not that into the history of Karate as i am only on my Yellow belt, but i am prepared to learn a lot more.

My aim is to go to a competition fight one time, as i would like a look at what competition fighting is all about.

Thankyou

Hello,

Thankyou very much for those videos they are very interesting, especially the competition but i think that they were going abit slow, they should be better than that for there belt. I would love to go againest someone in competition.

I am a yellow belt at my style soon to be orange, and to those girls fighting, there technique is not very good, i do sparring in my class, but i am not allowed to go with little ones around my age as i am too aggressive. If you have found any videos like that please send me the links. Thankyou again for the links that you sent me.

Hi

I am not sure how you would access them but if you track down old Magazines from the UK from the late 70's and thru the 80's you will find many sankukai articles. suggest:

Combat, Fighters, and Traditional Karate Mags

try E bay

good luck.

p.s

In those mags you'll find old photos of me when i was young and hard a full head of dark hair - you must not publish them here HAHA!

Hi everyone

I've had a look (about 3 or 4 times per video) and I cannot find anything really to like. I don't know if its because it is rehearsed, but it just looks a little sloppy and all style no substance. In fact it was as if there was no style but the people performing believed there was.

The kumite video was terrible - I hate the taekwondo style body armour anyway. (but I think that's just me)

I welcome any more videos but I don't think I could get on with this style. The worst aspects of Wado, Goju and Shotokan. I can see why there are not many schools

Hi WestBfella,

You sound as if you've been around for a while to make a judgment like this so, in the interests of improving my wado, I'd be interested in what you think are its "worst aspects..."?

I'm more interested in someone who thinks there are no bad aspects of wado karate?
Enlighten me

Now now, I didn't say there weren't 'worst aspects' of wado, in fact I may well agree with your judgment if I knew what the specifics were. I take it you practice Shotokan and twenty five years is a lengthy period and certainly time enough to make an assessment also so I am really just asking for clarification of your statement.

I would really be interested in the specifics.
