Hello KarateDKLF,

First and foremost, competiton in martial arts vary. And these variables change upon a sanctionng body-organization with set rules in place.

Second, depending of these rules, such competition has cons as well as a few pros.

I think a medium like You Tube would be not as good as actual experience. Looking at videos, as well as asking on a forum, is in not actual why to experience it first hand. Sign up with a school that participate in such competitons and go from there.

I would suggest that You tube and other sources of info would and will be very useful whilst you decide what type of sport combat you would like to participate in - they are all very different.

Good Luck

Looking at videos will not have the understanding from a full spectrum as much as seeking a school which attends such events. One can view videos, but these will not encompass the very essence of actual partake.

Agreed. But I could agree and say that a video may give a slight representation for viewing amongst variations

This is a good video demonstrating some shotokan freestyle sparring at an international competition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm4Wzbg4V2U

If you want to see more just search for 'hasha karate' on youtube, there is some real talent showed in those videos and their squad is one of the best in my country i believe.

Remember though its always better to go along to competitions and spectate for yourself, you learn a lot more using your own two eyes.
